I am a sociologist and ethnographer working at the intersection of organizational sociology, science and technology studies, and economic geography. I study how the organization of production shapes technological change—and how engineers, workers, and industrial regions sustain and experience that change.

From the shipyard to comparative research
Before joining Kyungnam University, I worked in strategy and management innovation at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (2012–2016). Shipyards and industrial cities remain central sites of my research. I combine ethnography and qualitative interviews with historical research, quantitative analysis, and policy analysis. I received my PhD in Science and Technology Policy from KAIST in 2025.
Factories, families, and regional futures
My books on Geoje and Ulsan connect the organization of manufacturing to families, urban life, and generational change. Research on industrial patriarchy and the politics of scale extends these questions to gendered labor markets, social reproduction, and regional restructuring. Together, these inquiries inform a longer-term comparison of production systems across industries and countries.
